As we are making a long drive tomorrow I thought it was a good idea to fill up the car. I happened to be passing a petrol station on E Tropicana and decided to stop there (maybe not the smartest move looking at the clientèle that were there) To make matters worse, I could not work out how to fill the damn car.
In the UK, you stick the nozzle in the car, squeeze the trigger and the car gets filled, when you are done you walk over to the window and pay the attendant. Not so easy in the US
1) First you have to pre-pay, as I was paying cash I had to leave a $50 bill, fill the car and then come back for my change
2) I could not get the damn nozzle inserted properly, you have to angle it down and lock it into place before the pump will start working. The attendant had to come out and show me.
3) The next thing to trick you is that you have to move a lever up on the pump for some reason before it will work, that caught me out as well as I have never seen a pump like that before.
The nice surprise was the cost $42 for 11 gallons (a mere £26) the same in the UK would cost £56 (taking into consideration the conversion from US to UK gallons)
Now the shocker was the fuel economy, 110 miles traveled on 11 gallons of fuel is a mere 10mpg !!!!! Worst fuel economy I have ever seen!
